The logical sequence of concepts generally unfolds in the following order as we reciew Spanish 1 materials:

1. Basics and Vocabulary

• Alphabet and Pronunciation: Learning how the vowels and specific letters (like ñ and rr) sound.

• Greetings and Introductions: Essential phrases for saying hello, goodbye, and asking how someone is doing.

• Numbers, Dates, and Time: Counting, saying the days of the week, and telling time.

2. Nouns and Basic Modifiers

• Gender and Nouns: Understanding that nouns are either masculine or feminine (e.g., el libro, la mesa).

• Articles: Definite (el, la, los, las) and indefinite (un, una, unos, unas) articles.

• Adjective Agreement: Matching adjectives to nouns in both gender and number (e.g., las chicas altas).

3. Basic Verbs and Conjugations

• Subject Pronouns: Words like yo (I), tú (you), él (he), nosotros (we).

• Present Tense Regular Verbs: Conjugating verbs ending in -ar, -er, and -ir.

• Common Irregular Verbs: Learning essential verbs that do not follow standard conjugation rules (e.g., ir - to go, tener - to have).

4. Sentence Structures and Descriptive Grammar

• Ser vs. Estar: Knowing when to use the two "to be" verbs (used for permanent traits vs. temporary states or locations).

• The Verb Gustar: How to express "I like" (me gusta) and other indirect object constructions.

• Reflexive Verbs: Using verbs to talk about daily routines and personal care (e.g., lavarse - to wash oneself).

• Question Words: Learning words like quién (who), qué (what), and dónde (where) to form questions

SPANISH 2 MATERIALS

Day #1 is a brief over view and welcome to our class, expectations and getting to know each other. BINGO LINK

Day #3: Students are (hopefully) getting more comfortable with each other.  Schedule changes are still happening too. 

• Students will be given the opportunity to choose their seat now that they have made a few friends.

• Participation and its importance to learning Spanish will be addressed.  Our participation board will be introduced.

• My (this) website will be shared.  My office hours/availability to help and classroom management expectations will be shared.

• The End of year Project will be introduced and samples will be shown. LINK to RUBRIC

• EXIT TICKET: Students will fill out a STUDENT INPUT form so I can get to now them too!

Day #4: Today we will review grammar concepts and some vocabulary from Spanish 1.  This will give me an idea as to what Spanish level my students are to help me understand the amount of review of the Spanish 1 material will be needed. Building  the Spanish 2 curriculum requires a solid foundation and understanding of the fundamentals from Spanish 1.
