The logical sequence of concepts generally unfolds in the following order:

1. Basics and Vocabulary

• Alphabet and Pronunciation: Learning how the vowels and specific letters (like ñ and rr) sound.

• Greetings and Introductions: Essential phrases for saying hello, goodbye, and asking how someone is doing.

• Numbers, Dates, and Time: Counting, saying the days of the week, and telling time.

2. Nouns and Basic Modifiers

• Gender and Nouns: Understanding that nouns are either masculine or feminine (e.g., el libro, la mesa).

• Articles: Definite (el, la, los, las) and indefinite (un, una, unos, unas) articles.

• Adjective Agreement: Matching adjectives to nouns in both gender and number (e.g., las chicas altas).

3. Basic Verbs and Conjugations

• Subject Pronouns: Words like yo (I), tú (you), él (he), nosotros (we).

• Present Tense Regular Verbs: Conjugating verbs ending in -ar, -er, and -ir.

• Common Irregular Verbs: Learning essential verbs that do not follow standard conjugation rules (e.g., ir - to go, tener - to have).

4. Sentence Structures and Descriptive Grammar

• Ser vs. Estar: Knowing when to use the two "to be" verbs (used for permanent traits vs. temporary states or locations).

• The Verb Gustar: How to express "I like" (me gusta) and other indirect object constructions.

• Reflexive Verbs: Using verbs to talk about daily routines and personal care (e.g., lavarse - to wash oneself).

• Question Words: Learning words like quién (who), qué (what), and dónde (where) to form questions

Objectives

● By the end of this lesson, the students will have reviewed and used, written and orally, the subject

pronouns in singular and plural and how to conjugate them with regular verbs and ser and estar.

Activity Summary

• Through an illustrated presentation, the students will learn the subject pronouns. Then, they will play two

games to review and remember them. Finally, they will practice them orally by creating a series of sentences.

Warm-up

• Before starting this lesson, use the Activator - Pronombres Personales as a warm-up activity.

Activity 1 - Introduction – Subject pronouns presentation

a. The teacher hands out Handout 1 for the students to take notes. Then, he/she will project and

discuss the presentation Subject Pronouns in Spanish so the students familiarize themselves with

all the subject pronouns. Through the presentation, the students will be completing the subject

pronouns table on the Handout 1 part 1.

b. After the presentation, the students (individually or in pairs) will answer the questions on the

Handout 1 part 2. Students are meant to deduce the answers by themselves, as they are very easy

once they have reviewed the presentation. Then, answers are compared with the rest of the class.

Day #3: (Monday) Students are (hopefully) getting more comfortable with each other.  Schedule changes are still happening too. 

• Students will be given the opportunity to choose their seat now that they have made a few friends.

• Participation and its importance to learning Spanish will be addressed.  Our participation board will be introduced as well.

• My (this) website will be shared.  My office hours/availability to help as well as classroom management expectations will be shared.

Day #7:  (Tuesday/Wednesday) Introducing fun-facts about Spanish Speaking countries. LINK to class presentation. Day #8:  (Thursday/Friday) Students will have the class period for reviewing the previous materials with an in-class game (BLAST!) and have time to complete their mini-projects that are due on Monday.

Day #9 (Monday) I will be out today.  This class period will be used to complete the country mini-projects assigned the previous class.  They are due onto the drawer by the end of class today.  You are also to practice your personal pronouns and Adjectives. Day #10 (Tuesday/Wednesday) We will be sharing the mini country project today in class, small groups.  We will be reviewing the personal/subject pronouns and playing BLAST to review our adjectives.  There is a QUIZ next class on BOTH the Personal Pronouns and the Adjectives.

Day #11 (Thursday/Friday) Quiz on the personal pronouns and basic adjectives.  Today we will be starting our new vocabulary. LINK

Day #12:  (Tuesday/Wednesday) We will discuss the results of the test from last week and make-up/retake opportunities are this week before school and after school.  After this week, the tests will be returned and the retake opportunity will have passed.  Today I am checking in the vocabulary added to your notebooks to make sure you have it available to you for future use.  It is my hope that students are studying their vocabulary every day for a minimum of 15 minutes.  In class today:  Reviewing Subject/Personal Pronouns and learning about the verb SER.
